Brighton Police Station’s newly refurbished front office for reporting crime and seeking advice has opened its doors.
As part of the wider refurbishment of the police station, the spacious, welcoming and accessible space is now open to members of the public in John Street.
This forms part of wider plans to further modernise our service and improve accessibility and the changes recognise the value the community place on being able to talk to local policing teams face to face.
New facilities in the spacious front office include privacy screens so people can talk to officers and staff in confidence, hearing loops and improved security measures. The building is also now environmentally friendly with better thermal insulation and also has more energy efficient heating and lighting.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell, Divisional Commander for Brighton and Hove said: “Brighton Police Station is more accessible than ever before and is equipped so that we can effectively meet people’s needs. Open seven days a week, our new front office is spacious and welcoming for the community and visitors to contact us. We also now have more interview rooms available where people can speak with our officers and staff in a confidential environment.
“Alongside the new front office space, wider changes in the building have seen the introduction of a new open plan working environment, allowing more officers and staff to work from this central location. This means teams are well placed to respond to local issues, can effectively respond to emergencies and are still centrally based in Brighton.
“The building is now fit for expected future policing demands in the city as we continue to transform how we work and start to welcome more officers into our teams following the recent council tax increase.
“I’m absolutely delighted with the new facilities and the benefits they will bring to the community and I extend my thanks to the local community and my teams who have endured a number of years of building work.”
Katy Bourne, Police and Crime Commissioner said: “Our police stations, front offices and public contact points are key parts of the reassuring footprint of policing for communities across Sussex. They are also places of work for dedicated public servants so we need to make sure they provide carefully designed and suitably equipped working spaces.
“The modernisation programme across Brighton Police Station is transforming a tired building into a bespoke policing office, as well as providing a more accessible and comfortable front office for local people that is open every day of the week.
“As the force begins its recruitment and transformation plan, it will be very reassuring for Brighton residents to know that, following the new front office opening, there will be more police officers and staff in local policing, working together to make the city safer.”
In September, Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne, Chief Constable Giles York and Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell the local Divisional Commander, along with key partners, will officially open the police station at a local ceremony. People will be given the opportunity to look around the renovated building and speak to the local teams who work alongside partners to keep Brighton and Hove safe.
Visiting a front office is just one of many ways the public can contact us.
