Sussex schools show their support for Rockinghorse

School’s out for summer! As another academic year draws to a close, Rockinghorse reflect on the wonderful support they’ve received from their charity partners at schools, nurseries, colleges and universities across Sussex.

Staff and students have been busy supporting them through a variety of fundraising events and initiatives this school year, in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for sick children in Sussex.

From September 2017 to July 2018, education partners collectively raised an incredible £32,964 for Rockinghorse! They did it all – from dress-down days to bake sales, read-a-thons, school balls and dedicated Christmas and Easter activities (pictured below).

The total was boosted by Great Walstead School in Lindfield, who organised an ‘under-the-sea’ themed ball in May, raising £10,000 (pictured above). Elsewhere, Warden Park Academy in Cuckfield raised £5,235, supporting them as their chosen Charity of the Year (pictured above).

Hollie Trezise, Schools and Community Fundraising Manager at Rockinghorse, said: “It’s been another fantastic year for our education partners in Sussex and we are so very grateful for their wonderful fundraising achievements.

“Since joining the charity in February this year, I’ve really enjoyed working with local schools, nurseries, colleges and universities in Sussex, to talk about the work of Rockinghorse and how their support really does make a difference.”

As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, Rockinghorse raise money for life-saving and cutting edge medical equipment, as well as ensuring that children are treated in an environment better suited to their needs.

They also provide vital support to the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton, its sister site the Special Care Baby Unit in Haywards Heath, and other children’s centres and services across the county.

As part of their pledge to support sick children in Sussex, they have also partnered with The Connor Saunders Foundation to provide schools in the county with potentially life-saving defibrillators. This year alone, they have funded nine defibrillators in schools (pictured below at Cottesmore St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Hove), and since the partnership began in 2014, we have funded a total of 43 defibrillators for schools so far.

If your school, nursery, college or university can support them in the next academic year, they’d love to hear from you! Call them on 01273 330044 or email to find out how you can work with them.
